Detailed Itinerary of the 11 Days (BEST) Uganda Chimps & Bwindi Gorilla Tour

Day 1: Arrival-Pick Up 

Upon your arrival, you will be picked by our company driver and transfer you to your hotel in Kampala for dinner and an overnight stay at  Cassia Lodge Buziga.

Day 2: Transfer to Ngamba Island

Have an encounter with the rescued chimpanzee as you set in Lake Victoria Ngamba Island a home of over 40 orphaned chimpanzees. Enjoy the spectacular distant scenery view of the neighboring islands as you ride to Ngamba. The bird life on the island is no miss out for birders.

You may engage in the infant integration experience of the chimpanzees on the island or take a forest walk and have an encounter with the interactive primates on the island. Have your dinner and overnight at Ngamba Island Tented Camp.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After your breakfast, leave the island for Kibale Forest National Park the most accessible rainforest in Uganda. The journey will take you through the stunning scenery of Fortportal.  Enjoy the wonderful background view of the Rwenzori Mountains of the moon. Have your dinner and overnight at Primates Lodge.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking at Kibale Forest National Park

After your breakfast, report to the park headquarters for a briefing session about the tracking code of conduct and catch up with the adventurous experience of chimpanzee tracking into the misty Kibale forest. This trek is superb for birders with rewards of a wide variety of bird life. Other habitat primates may also be seen which may include the L’Hoest’ monkeys, red colobus monkey, blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkey, red-tailed monkeys and the grey-cheeked mangabeys among others.

In the evening leave Kibale for the Semliki national park jungle as you drive to the Congo border right under the Rwenzori Mountains. Dinner and overnight at Semliki Safari Lodge.

Day 5: In Semliki

After your break fast enjoy a game drive in the jungle that hosts variety of bird species with exceptional primates which may include black-and-white colobus, De Brazza’s monkey, vervet monkey, red-tailed monkey, grey-cheeked mangabey, olive baboons and blue monkeys.

After your lunch a visit to the geothermal Sempaya Hot springs through the loveliest tracts of the Semliki forest will reward you with clear views in to the forest canopy to spot monkeys and birds. Dinner and overnight at Semliki Safari Lodge.

Day 6: Game Drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park

11 Days (BEST) Uganda Chimps & Bwindi Gorilla TourHead to Biodiversity Park after your breakfast and enjoy a game drive in to the crater region as you enter the park with possible views of its habitat wildlife like the lions, buffalos, leopard, antelopes and hyena’s among others. Enjoy your lunch en-route.

After your lunch a visit to the Mweya peninsular will reward you with sightings of the Kasenyi plains where the highest concentration of game viewing is paramount with in the park and also marked as the breeding ground for the Uganda Kob. Dinner and overnight at Jacana Safari Lodge.

Day 7: Chimpanzee Tracking at Kyambura gorge

After your breakfast experience tracking of the chimpanzees in the gorge after a briefing from the park headquarters about the tracking code of conduct.
After your lunch take a game viewing launch cruise along the Kazinga channel with sightings of marvelous wild life including the Nile crocodile, hippos and buffalos and a few crocodiles. Dinner and overnight at Jacana Safari Lodge.

Day 8: Transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park

Drive through the Ishasha sector in the north of Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi and enjoy views of the tree climbing lions as they rest in the fig trees. Enjoy your lunch en-route.
In the afternoon embark in a village walk and explore the ways of life of the local village residents. Dinner and over night at Buhoma Community Bandas.

Day 9: Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi Forest

You will be briefed about the gorilla trackers code of conduct at the park headquarters after your break fast by a UWA official. A guide will lead you in to the impenetrable Bwindi and trek the mountain gorillas. The trekking depends on where the gorillas are and how easy they are to be found. Dinner and overnight at Buhoma Community Bandas.

Day 10: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Today’s drive is through what is perhaps East Africa’s most amazing scenery, the highland rain forests. Filled with primates and exotic birds, this really is an incredible journey and it’s a last chance to see the beautiful black-and-white colobus as we head towards Kampala.

After your lunch take a guided walk around the magnificent crater of Lake Bunyonyi. Possible sightings may include the bird life on the lake.

Day 11: Departure to Kampala

After your break fast depart back to Kampala with an en-route lunch stopover.
