The 24 Days Birding & Wildlife Safari Tour takes you Gorilla Trekking, Mountaineering and Wildlife Adventuring in Mgahinga National Park, Mountain Rwenzori National Park, Semliki National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls National Park.
Day 1: Arrival-Pick Up
This morning, your driver guide will pick you up from your hotel after your breakfast for a city tour in to the Pearl of Africa’s Capital Kampala.
You will explore the beautiful city Kampala with a visit to the historical, cultural and religious sites like the Uganda Museum known to be the oldest in East Africa where you will catch-up with the magnificent ethnographic exhibits and archaeological and natural history displays, the man made Kabaka’s lake, the only temple of the Bahai faith in Africa (Bahai temple in Kanyanya), Namugongo shrines, Namirembe cathedral and also Makerere University which is the oldest institution in Africa. There after retire for dinner and overnight at your hotel at Sheraton Hotel
Day 2: Transfer-Kisoro
After your breakfast you will be picked from your Hotel and hit the road for Kisoro town. This drive will take you through the natural scenery sightings in Kisoro and reward you with sightings of the bamboo and montane forest of the Echuya reserve with splendorous views of the north to the Virungas from the elevated Kanaba Gap. Dinner and overnight at Travelers’ Rest Hotel
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking & Bird Watching in Mgahinga
This morning you will report to the park headquarters after you breakfast before you adventure into a life time hilarious experience of tracking down the Nyakagezi gorilla group composed of 9 members; 3 adult females, 2 silver backs, 2 juveniles and 2 infants. You will have a briefing session from a UWA official about the mountain gorilla tracking code of conduct and thereafter you will be led through the undergrowth parting thick creepers.
You can embark on optional birding in this scenic park in the evening where you may be rewarded with sightings of various bird species at the edge of the park. Possible sightings may include, Ibis, Whydah, Speckled Mouse bird, and Fire Finch, Stonechat, Grey Capped Warbler and the Waxbills among others Retire for dinner and overnight stay at Travelers’ Rest Hotel
Day 4: Golden Monkey Tracking in Mgahinga National Park
Today, have an encounter with the park’s endangered species restricted to the rift valley (Golden monkeys). After your breakfast, you will be guided through the bamboo zone for a wonderful encounter with the golden monkeys through the tracking adventure.
This activity will expose you further to the wildlife within the park. After you lunch take pleasure in a community walk in the par’s neighboring Batwa community. You will explore the pygmies’ way of life and have an in sight of the historical tales with a visit to the Garama cave. Retire for dinner and overnight at Travelers’ Rest Hotel
Day 5: Transfer to Mountain Rwenzori Park
Depart from this diminutive scenic park to the ascent of the Rwenzori Mountain in Uganda. Upon your arrival, head to Nyakalengija trail off Fortportal road after your breakfast and set off for the hike through the vegetation zones and ascent to Nyabitaba hut through canopies and slopes of Podocarpus forest and enjoy the walk with possible sighting of several wildlife creatures. Dinner and overnight at Nyabitaba hut.
Day 6: Matte Hut (River Mubuku)
Commence on a morning hike from Nyabitaba hut after your breakfast to John Matte Hut. Tumble down through a small trail to the forest for Kurt Shafer Bridge and cogitate at the luminous Mubuku River. Descend through the open moss forest and open patches before you reach John matte hut for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: To Bujuku
After breakfast go through the magnificent view setting of mount Stanley, Baker and Speke, with a panoramic landscape of the gigantic Groundsel via River Bujuku to the home of the giant Lobelias in the Bigo Bog. Dinner and overnight at Bujuku hut.
Day 8: Scott Elliott Pass
Ascend the main trail to Scott-Elliot Pass (4372m) through the paranormal Groundsel Gully from Bujuku hut down to Kitandara lakes. After the Gully, head over a steep rocky trail to Elena hut a base camp for climbing Margherita peak.
Day 9: To Kitandara Hut
Cut below the massive rock walls at the base of Mt. Baker form the Scott Elliott pass via upper Kitandara Lake through the bad mud to the lower lake and Kitandara Hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Guy Yeoman Hut
Set off to Guy Yeoman after breakfast from Kitandara close to the Mubuku River and enjoy the terrific views of the Mount Baker in the north and surrounded by the beautiful landscape of the mountain. Have dinner and overnight at Guy Yeoman hut.
Day 11: to Nyitamba
Take an early morning trek towards Kachuchu to Nyabitaba and take a rest after the strenuous past days mountain hike. Later transfer to the park headquarters with dinner and overnight at Margherita Hotel.
Day 12: Transfer-Mpanga gorge
This morning after your breakfast, head off to Mpanga gorge a few kilometers beyond the northeast corner of Lake George. You will be rewarded with sightings of Uganda’s ecological treasure the Cycad an endemic in the gorge.
The highest concentration / population of the cycad is known to be highest at this spot in the world. You will be able to spot Mpanga River that originates upstream from Kibale National Park and flows gently along the boundary of Queen Elizabeth Park into Lake George Ramsar site and the Mpanga Power Station.
Day 13: Transfer-Semliki Valley
After your breakfast drive to the most spectacular section of the Albertine rift in the Semliki Valley. You will enjoy sightings of the acacia savannah dotted with borassus palms. A visit to the geothermal Hot springs at Sempaya will reward you with views of the female spring at the edge of the Semliki Forest and the male spring approached through the beautiful palm forest trail and broad walks across the hot swamp.
After your lunch, embark on a community walk where you will explore the Batwa culture. You will visit the pygmies who live on the forest edge at Ntandi and get an insight of their way of life and culture. Return for dinner and overnight at Semliki Game Lodge
Day 14: Transfer-Queen Elizabeth National Park
After your breakfast drive off from the Semliki Park to the diverse park of Queen Elizabeth. You will enjoy a game drive as you enter the park with a spectacular view of its habitant wild life. Possible sightings may include; the Uganda Kob, lion, buffalo, topi, leopard among others. Head to Mweya safari lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 15: Chimpanzee Tracking & Bird Watching-Kyambura Gorge
You will have a briefing session about the tracking code of conduct at the park headquarters after your break fast and thereafter catch-up with the tracking experience of the chimpanzees in their natural habitat in the Kyambura gorge.
You will be rewarded with views of the forest habitants in the gorge surrounding for example the Black Bee Eaters and the Blue Breasted Kingfisher, Black and African Black Emerald Cuckoos, Speckled Tinker bird, green Hylia, White-spotted Fluftail.
After your lunch, a launch cruise on the Kazinga channel will further reward you with scenic wild life views of the Nile crocodile, hippopotamus, chameleons and lizards with a variety of bird life. Dinner and over night at Mweya safari lodge
Day 16: Bird watching Maramagambo Forest-Queen Elizabeth National Park
After your break fast take a walk in to the misty Maramagambo forest and catch-up with the early morning risers in the thick forest especially the habitat rich bird life through the Forested shore of Lake Kyasanduka trail. Other possible sightings on this trail may include monkeys like the red-tailed and vervet, black and white Colobus and the L’Hoests monkey.
After your lunch witness an interesting process of manual salt mining on Lake Katwe at the Katwe salt works and don’t miss out on the explanations about the whole process from the onsite guide. Dinner and overnight Mweya safari lodge
Day 17: Transfer-Kampala
After your breakfast, depart from the western part of Uganda for Uganda’s capital Kampala. You will be rewarded with en-route sightings of the magnificent scenery composed of various flora and fauna. You will have an enroute lunch. Dinner and over night at Sheraton Hotel
Day 18: Transfer-Murchison Falls National Park
Today after your breakfast, you will be picked from your hotel by your driver guide and set off for an early drive to Murchison falls National Park. You will detour Jinja, en-route visit the Mabira forest where you will enjoy spontaneous views of the bird life and monkeys at this spot, and you will also be rewarded with sightings of the beautiful butterflies in a forest walk. You will enjoy a cool breeze as you drive through this forest. Proceed for dinner and over night at Wild waters lodge
Day 19: Whitewater rafting-River Nile Jinja
After your breakfast you will set off for the most exciting adventure in Jinja on the Nile River. This will take you through the magnificent 8 rapids on the Nile and also reward you with spectacular views of the bird haven on this magnificent Nile River. Transfer back to your lodge for dinner and overnight. Wild waters lodge
Day 20: Boat Cruise-River Nile
In the morning, after breakfast, head for the boat ride on the Nile and go right to where Lake Victoria and the Nile meet. You will have and lots of opportunities to take pictures from flowers to the Nile and its fishermen. After your lunch drive off to Murchison falls National Park. Dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge
Day 21: Bird Watching-Murchison Falls National Park
Today after your breakfast, embark on a morning game drive at the magnificent top of the falls. You will be rewarded with sight and sound on the Nile crashing through the chasm.
You will also spot the early risers besides the birdlife including species like the shoebill, whale headed stork, red throated bee eaters and many more. After your lunch, take pleasure in a game viewing launch cruise along the Nile River in boat trip. Expect to see hippos, crocodiles, oribi, hartebeest, buffalos and the wonderful falls. Transfer for dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge
Day 22: Chimpanzee Tracking-Murchison Falls National Park
Wake up this day for a hilarious experience of tracking the chimps in this magnificent forest. You will report to the park headquarters after your breakfast for briefing in regards to the tracking code of conduct. There after you will be led through the Rabongo forest where you will experience tracking of the chimpanzees in their natural habitant. Dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge
Day 23: Transfer-Kampala
Drive back to Kampala after your break fast. You will detour the Ziwa Rhino sanctuary, an extinction of Uganda’s rhinos established to breed black and white rhinos to restore the rhino population that greatly reduced in the early 1980s during the period of civil unrest and heavy poaching. Proceed to Kampala for dinner and overnight at Sheraton Hotel
Day 24: In Kampala
Time allowing after breakfast; embark on souvenir shopping in the Kampala’s cultural shopping centers or alternatively relax in your hotel and pack your bags. Depending on your departure flight time, you will be transferred to Entebbe to catch your flight back home.
